The Gastroenterology Teaching Project

Hepatic Transport and Jaundice

UTP 21        110 slides        $135

This unit illustrates the basic concepts regarding hepatic transport, bilirubin metabolism, and the pathophysiology, diagnosis and pharmacologic treatment of specific syndromes. Slides, divided into 6 sections, show transport of vesicles, electrolytes, bile salts, secreted proteins, and metals, as well as bilirubin. Sections are entitled: Functional Anatomy, Histology and Ultrastructure of the Liver; Physiology of Hepatic Transport; Cell Biology of Hepatic Transport; Modification of Steps in Hepatic Transport; Normal Bilirubin Chemistry and Metabolism; and Impaired Hepatic Transport (which includes slides on jaundice, unconjugated hyperbilirubinemia, conjugated hyperbilirubinemia, as well as general considerations).

"Drs. Ostrow and Berk are to be commended on their succinct coverage of considerable new knowledge regarding hepatic solute transport, bile flow, vesicular transport, organic anion transport, and mechanisms of cholestasis ..."
